Koh Samui - Thailand not effected by Tsunami

Koh Samui has not been affected by the Tsunami that devastated many parts of Asia on Sunday 26th December. The Tsunami was caused by a massive underwater earthquake measuring 9.0; the epicenter of the earthquake was off the west coast of Sumatra in Indonesia.

Faraway would like to assure all those who are worried for the safety of their relatives and friends who are current on holiday on Koh Samui and those who are scheduled to travel to Koh Samui that our island has not been affected by the Tsunami.

The effected areas of Thailand were in the Andaman Sea (Thailand's west coast) where the Tsunami hit Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi islands. Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand (Thailand's east coast) and was completely protected from the effects of the earthquake and the Tsunami the followed. Koh Samui did not experience any tremors and the sea conditions have been completely normal.
